Just a scan of print I did in my first year, it was just for testing some new techniques that we learned. Probably the most fun project I have done in the whole three years, and the most fine art, coincidentally…

This is an example of a font I made in my second year, and I’m thinking of using it on my CV.

Unnecessarily disturbing (but equally awesome) flyer for Volks club in Brighton. It caught my attention on a night out though and I found two of these flyers in my bag in the morning, which I was very pleased about.

Exhibition | Crimes of Passion Exhibition at the Royal West of England Academy
Went to this exhibition with a few friends in Clifton the other day, it was well worth a look. The amount of artwork in the first room was quite visually overwhelming -every surface was covered.
I’m not sure why they had such a rigid logo for what was essentially a very free exhibition though. In places artists work appeared to flow into one another. it might have been nice to have this reflected in the logo.

“People are all over the world telling their one dramatic story and how their life has turned into getting over this one event. Now their lives are more about the past than their future.” From Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. He is my favourite author (i think) and I have used his quotes many times in my artwork, his observation of the individual personality and society as a whole is fascinatingly dark.

Resisting the Hype

Ok, first blog…

Two things which had massive hype at their time of release which I have managed to avoid until very recently are Gallows and Juno.

Gallows are one thing that for me lived up to the hype, but at the moment they hit it big I assumed it was the hype surrounding them that made people name-drop, rather than the quality of the music.

Juno I was not so sure about, I didn’t dislike it, I just think there could have been a hell of a lot more done with the plot. Therefore, I don’t think it lived up to the hype.

I, like many people now have signed up to my favourite bands’ websites, and get the odd email about their new releases and special shows etc. Having been signed up to a few for a while (vague, i know) I now believe that the main reason that bands contact their fans is to create hype to surround their new albums. I have recently been sent 6 seperate full length tracks, from 2 different bands to download for free, months before the album release date. As a fully paid-up fan already I don’t think I need this kind of hook to ensure I buy the album. So whose money are they trying to secure with the free download? I find it very hard to judge a band particularly if they have ‘changed their sound’ when there is a fog of hype surrounding what they have created. Maybe I should wait until the hype has died away so that I can make up my own mind, away from the rave-reviews, slanderings and sneak-peeks.

…If only I were that patient!

And don’t get me started on the Kings of Leon

There, that wasn’t so hard!
